The best way to know what’s going on with the waves is going to the beach every morning and observing the ocean. And since our shop is located right on the beach, it makes things easy. I use Magic Seaseed to forecast trends in the swell and wind conditions, as well as general weather. You will find that the surf report from Playa Maderas uses the same data as the reports for all of the surrounding beaches in San Juan del Sur, so don’t read too much into it. Also, advanced forecasts are seldom accurate and tend to be optimistic. We book all of our surf trips and surf lessons no more than one or two days in advance, because advanced forcasts are not very accurate. In any case we are mobile and have a lot of destinations available, so if there are good waves out there we will take you to them. The biggest swell is between March and November, and the dry season is from November through April, but even during the most flat months you can score good swell and even the most rainy months get some sunshine every day. The cold water season is from January through April. Don’t worry though. We carry a great selection of neoprene from O’Neill, Quiksilver, Roxy, and West. Contact us for more specific information.
